A mobile game that World of Warcraft fans have been eagerly waiting for has reportedly been canceled. Despite being in development for three years, the unexpectedly canceled title caused disappointment among players. The reason for the cancellation decision is shown as disagreements between Activision Blizzard and NetEase. Also, there is no statement from these two companies; however, according to Bloomberg, the World of Warcraft spin-off game won’t come out.
Bad News From the World of Warcraft Spin-Off Game
Bloomberg claims the World of Warcraft spin-off title has been canceled. The upcoming mobile game had been in development for three years. But it seems like the financial issues negatively impacted the development process and caused several conflicts between Activision Blizzard and NetEase.
“The two companies disagreed over terms and ultimately called a halt to the project, which had been kept under wraps,” said a source close to the deal.
The title, which has been developing for years, was known by the code name ”Neptune”. Besides that, it was intended to be a mobile spin-off game MMORPG with the same universe as World of Warcraft. Also, this decision came after Diablo Immortal, released by Activision Blizzard and NetEase, achieved significant financial success in the mobile market.
The Chinese gaming company NetEase is known for successful and popular mobile games like Knives Out, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, Dead by Daylight Mobile, and Marvel Super War. According to the recent report, over 100 developers were working on the project Neptune. But, after the cancellation, some developers were offered transfers to other projects and positions. This largely confirms the claims that it was canceled.
Fans think canceling the upcoming World of Warcraft mobile game was the wrong decision. However, as we have said before, there has been no statement from either company for now.
So, what do you think about this?
